About me
I am Sjors Hagenbeek.
I believe that a contemporary ideology, with historical precedents and architectural theory in mind, is fundamental in creating the architecture of tomorrow.
I perceive architecture to be paramount in shaping and nurturing human relations on a multiplicity of scales. The poetics of architecture possess an innate ability to unconsciously shape our ethos by agency of the most intangible qualities and smallest details in spatial atmosphere, materiality and tactility. Therefore a profound understanding of the instruments utilised in architecture is imperative. I consider the history and a deeper sense of the place essential in creating contemporary architecture that constitutes a continuity of the local identity and the common culture. I value the making of models, as a form of spatial research and as a representation of one design, vital in capturing the intangible expressions of architecture, such as light, textures, materials and its atmosphere. The synergy of a project, drawn in plans and within its context, complementing the three dimensional suggestions of a model, creates a vital rendering of the architecture, articulating its principal intentions.
I value critical thinking during the design process and expressing the design in architectural writing and captivating imagery. I am ambitious, creative and resourceful. I am driven to create and eager to learn in order to refine my skills and gain experience. My architectural position is best outlined as profound and intelligent, modest yet significant, accurate and meticulous. As a person, I am both strong in working in teams as well as autonomously.
I strive to create architecture with a profound paradigm, converging on the human relations of inhabitants and par excellence; the art of architecture itself.
